Kyle Seager didn't just take the fast track to the major leagues. He was speeding while on the fast track.
Less than a year after finishing his season with High Desert, Seager made his major league debut with the Mariners on July 7, going 0-for-4 in a loss to the Angels.
“It's been amazing, going through the system and going through each level,” said Seager before the Mariners July 8 game in Anaheim. “It's been a great run and hopefully I'll continue to do well up here and stick around for a while.”
A third round draft pick in 2009 out of North Carolina, Seager hit .345 with 14 home runs and 74 RBIs with the Mavericks in 2010. “It's a big offensive park and a lot of guys will put up big numbers there and then they go to the next level and it doesn't necessarily translate,” Seager said. “It's been nice that it's kind of remained for me. It's a good place to hit and you can get rewarded there for sure.”
He hit .312 with 25 doubles and 37 RBIs in 66 games with Double-A Jackson earlier this season before being promoted to Triple-A Tacoma, where he hit .455 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in just 12 games before getting the call to the majors.
In four games, he has gone 1-for-12 with a single, but Mariners manager Eric Wedge said he has confidence in Seager.
“I'm just getting a peek at him, but he's a good all-around baseball player,” Wedge said. “I thought he handled himself well in his debut. He handled himself well at third base, he was up at home plate ready to hit and competed up there.”
As Seager moves forward with his promising big league career, he said he'll fondly remember his time in the High Desert.
“I had a lot of fun there, met a lot of nice people, played in some real nice parks and it was nice seeing California,” he said. “I'd never really been out here,The tiffany consists of eight smaller individual cubes. so it was real nice to see the state.”
? JONES HEATING UP: Outfielder/first baseman James Jones has been swinging a hot bat in the second half after a miserable first half.
He had an 11-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday, and in his last 10 games Jones is hitting .350 with nine runs scored, a home run and four RBIs.
His batting average has gone up 24 points in the second half, from .206 at the end of the first half to .230 after Tuesday's game.
“The first half I was just swinging out of my shoes a lot, not being patient, shopforcoachshoes for sale to men with low price and top quality. If you have all the right materials and equipment, edhardyshirt.” Jones said. Right now I'm just seeing the ball deeper.”
Due to the promotion of Vinnie Catricala and an injury to Dennis Raben, Jones has been forced to play first base eight of the past 11 games after spending nearly the entire season prior to that in right field. Jones played some first base in college, but it was a big adjustment.
“I'm just trying to work on getting better at the position they put me at,” Jones said. “It felt weird at first but after about three games over there I started feeling comfortable and started going back to things that I learned in college.”
