What a guy! Congrats to his running mates Larry Werther and George Durham. A word of praise for Chris Wales, who, with very few resources, made a credible showing.

Passing our house, Senator Jack Martins took the time to stop by and say “hello” to Grace and I. Jack has showed he can work across the isle working with Democrat Michele Schimel to pass the law that let us vote with the popular and easy lever machines. By the way, our former editor, Joe Rizza, is Jack's rep for this area. Joe and Jack worked together on a number of things when Joe was with the Mineola American.

Anita and Steve Cocheo had dinner at Papa Joes Italian restaurant next to the Herricks movie. Anita was a Mineola school teacher and principal and Steve is in sales. The restaurant is Italian but for St. Patrick's Day they went Irish. Joe had great corned beef and cabbage, bangels and mash and the Guinness was poured all night. This is not too strange since Joe Jordan, the owner, is of Irish descent.

One thousand people attended the two Masses honoring Father Tomaz Gomide, one in English and one in Portuguese. Gear Review: High Peak Chameleon 20/0

Nothing is worse than lying in your sleeping bag shivering all night. Except if it's laying in your sleeping bag sweating all night. It's that ongoing dilemma which causes many people to struggle with buying a sleeping bag. Even if most of your trips are in the summer or fall, you still want to be prepared for a winter night, but don't want to shell out big bucks for two bags.
High Peak saw that struggle, and the answer is the Chameleon. It's a 20 degree synthetic bag that comes with an additional blanket-like attachment that easily zips onto the top of the bag to bring the comfort rating down to zero. Brilliant. Why didn't I think of that?
I put the Chameleon to the test on a snow camping trip in the Crags, beneath Pikes Peak in Colorado this February. Before we go out, my wife will often ask "how are people dressing tonight?" I'm never quite sure how to answer - at least for her. In essence, she's asking me to read the room we'll be in, and then translate the social nuance of that room to her choice of clothing.

While I certainly pay attention to what I wear, I've come to the point in my life where choosing clothes for a social night out isn't that big a deal anymore. Women, or perhaps my wife in particular, seem far more attuned to the symbolism of social dress than I (perhaps that's why it takes them so long to get ready!). It's not that I don't appreciate a well tailored jacket - I do - it's just...well I know what I like, and I like things simple. I'm tempted to blame Facebook for this - because as I've pointed out here many times, Facebook is currently a pretty homogenous place, with relatively poor instrumentation of who we are, socially. Our Facebook identities are the same no matter to whom we present them. How strange is it that we as humans have created an elaborate, branded costume culture to declare who we are in the physical world, but online, we're all pretty much wearing khakis and blue shirts?
