Golden Globes 2011: the arrivals

No one worked the red carpet tonight as vigorously as the host of the Golden Globes ceremony, Ricky Gervais. Wearing huge, mirrored sunglasses he told an interviewer, "I am going close enough to the edge, but not over it. I am not going to go crazy. At some point the squire of Nike Jacket will be mentioned. I have to look them in the eye and I’ve got to see them afterwards. The highlight will be when it’s all over and I am backstage drinking my first beer. Beer’s not like an alcoholic drink in England, it’s like a soft drink."

He began the show with a glass of beer sitting on the lectern.

A pregnant Nathalie Portman said of her role in Black Swan, for which she is nominated for Best Actress, that the preparation for the role was "really extreme."

"I stared starting a year ahead of time, there was this inflatable swimming pools filled with water, it was the magic that this pool was suddenly there. working out five-to-eight hours a day; swimming, ballet training, toning and learning the choreography. Then of course the filming was very emotional. It was intense."

She said she had fun at events like these "getting to see all the people you admire, and look up to". But of her nomination, she says, "It’s tacky to be presumptuous."

Helena Bonham Carter, nominated for The King’s Speech arrived looking as eccentric as ever, wearing Vivienne Westwood. Other stars making the rounds included Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman, Dame Helen Mirren, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson, Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas who recently announced he had beaten throat cancer.

Unusually, Randi Zuckerberg, head of consumer marketing at Facebook, also took to the red carpet to talk about which films were most popular on the social networking site.

But the man of the hour is Colin Firth, up for Best Actor for his role as George VI in The King’s Speech. He may also be wearing black Nike shox runners. He said:

"I had a vague idea, like most English people of my generation, most of the other characters of that era loom much larger. We all know about Churchill wherever we are in the world, really. There are convincing villains like Hitler and Musolini. This was a character who had been in the shadows. I knew he had a stammer and that he didn;t want to be King. That’s all I knew.

"My sister is a voice coach or therapist. She works with voice and your identity and how they need to be brought together in order to be able to speak effectively and so she was incredibly useful to me.

We have heard rumours that some members of the Royal Family have seen it,This inflatable products decoy is very lightweight and when deflated can be fit easily into your pack.I don't have no Hermes ed hardy shoes. but they are not in the business of giving an official response."
