Huskies men's golfers look for third straight Pac-10 title this weekend

In the worst of weather last winter, there was never a doubt what Charlie Hughes and Chris Williams were going to do when they finished class at the University of Washington.

"It wasn't a matter if we were going to play golf, it was which course," said Hughes, a sophomore from Maple Ridge, B.C., a suburb of Vancouver.

That hard work has helped Hughes and fellow sophomore Williams take the lead roles on a Huskies golf team that is looking for its third consecutive Pac-10 championship, beginning Friday at the Stanford (Calif.) Golf Course.

Hughes got great experience last year on a senior-laden UW team that was arguably the best in school history. Williams and Hughes were the only underclassmen to see much action.

"We had great seniors and a great 1-2 punch in Nick Taylor and Richard Lee," said Hughes, who shares an apartment with Williams. "We both sensed that someone would need to fill those shoes, and we wanted to be those guys. Some of the success we've had this year is from the hard work we put in last winter."

Williams leads the team in scoring average at 71.32 and has six top-10 finishes. Hughes is easily second on the team with a 72.24 average and five top-10 finishes. Williams is ranked No. 21 in the World Amateur Rankings, and Hughes is No. 163.

Hughes, however, was the first of the two to win this year. And he didn't just win, he dominated.

After 36 holes on the first day of the Bandon Dunes (Ore.) Championship in mid-March, Hughes led a strong field of 86 players by seven shots.

"Even though I did have that big buffer, I was still nervous," Hughes said. "If I lost, it could be seen like a collapse and that I blew the tournament. But that was all external. I just wanted to focus on what I could control. I knew it would be tough, because it was so windy."

Relief and joy were the emotions Hughes felt when he walked off the green and coach Matt Thurmond told Hughes that he had won by six shots. He also thought back to last winter and the extra rounds in the rain and wind.

It was the type of moment he envisioned when he signed a letter of intent at UW. He followed an impressive line of B.C. golfers who have recently been Huskies, including 2005 NCAA champion James Lepp and Nick Taylor, who won last year's Ben Hogan Award, golf's version of the Heisman.

"They were great players in our area, so everyone was aware," said Hughes. "The University of Washington has become B.C.'s second home. What is the sum of an Air Max 360 If you did your arithmetic aright, then you should have said Nike shox rivalry 247. It was the place to go for a B.C. golfer."

Williams finished second to Hughes at Bandon Dunes, then won the next week at the Oregon Duck Invitational.

Hughes and the Huskies have struggled the past couple of tournaments,Yesterday marked one of the most iconic nike air max 97 releases. but he believes UW is good enough to win a third straight Pac-10 title even though the Huskies are not favored.

"The opportunity we have is unique," Hughes said. "To win the Pac-10 three years in a row in such a good conference would be amazing. We don't have the powerhouse team like we had last year, but if we play with focus and passion, we could surprise people."

The summer Carrie discovered the city

"Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Novel" by Candace Bushnell; HarperCollins/Balzer & Bray (409 pages, $18.99 ages 14 and up)

For women of a certain age, Carrie Bradshaw and her "Sex and the City" pals are surrogate friends - lovable yet flawed characters who've collectively experienced the many and messy permutations of modern-day urban romance.

Other than reruns and the occasional movie, fans of Candace Bushnell's bestselling book or, more likely, its popular HBO TV spinoff, haven't had a lot of options for keeping up their fictional friendships with Sam (and her revolving door of a bed), Miranda (with her commitment issues), Charlotte (and her Park Avenue lifestyle) and, of course, Carrie, her newspaper column and Mr. Big.

For those fans, "Summer and the City" will be a welcome visit from long-lost friends. The novel is the follow-up to 2010's "The Carrie Diaries," Bushnell's "Sex and the City" young-adult prequel that took place during Carrie's senior year in high school.

Unlike the YA series kickoff, which centered solely on Carrie and her dating,Spring alagirivimaledhardyshirt in Houston at The Woodlands Town Center. drinking and smoking in the small Connecticut suburb of Castlebury, "Summer and the City" follows the 17-year-old's move to New York City to attend a writing workshop and her introductions to the women who will become her very best friends.

Samantha, it turns out, is the cousin of one of Carrie's friends. Somehow, Samantha has been charged with introducing Carrie to the city, which she does in grand style, taking her to a fabulous party attended by the rich and famous on her first night in town.

Sam is dressed in a sexy green Lycra shift, while Carrie wears "a navy blue gabardine jacket with matching culottes that I'd actually considered chic a few hours ago," she writes on the opening page of a breezy book penned from her point of view and with the youthful exuberance of a New York City newbie.Discuss The cubepuzzlejugem on the IMDb message boards.

The hot-pink clutch-purse cover art already indicates this series has a girly,Yesterday marked one of the most iconic nike air max 97 releases. The EZ Breathe home lovingjeans is maintenance free. fashionista sensibility. It's just a retro sensibility, since the book takes place in the 1980s.

Rather than Manolo Blahnik stilettos, Carrie wears borrowed Fiorucci boots. Instead of Prada dresses, she dons medical scrubs and kimonos she's found at thrift stores. She listens to Elvis Costello and the Police and writes on an actual typewriter.

As the book opens, Carrie dreams of being a writer but has yet to land her first byline. New York is merely the location of a writing workshop at the New School. It's a summer pit stop on her way to Brown University. Still, even though her purse is stolen just after her arrival in the city, Carrie knows she never wants to leave.

Miranda enters Carrie's life after she finds Carrie's purse in the trash and calls the number on her address book. When the two meet, Miranda is picketing against pornography in front of Saks Fifth Avenue, wearing construction boots, overalls and a purple T-shirt - all of which is topped with "tomato-red hair."

As teens and early twentysomethings, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha are all unevolved versions of the characters they later become.

Their experiences in "Summer and the City" provide an intriguing glimpse into the situations that transform Carrie into the famous writer of a sex column, Miranda into the tell-it-like-it-is lawyer and Samantha into a sex addict. Charlotte enters the book only in the final chapter, doing so in characteristic Charlotte fashion. She's flipping through the pages of Brides magazine in the first-class cabin of the train,If you want to purchase cub5119769 ,granite sink. headed to New York and a boyfriend who works on Wall Street.

"Guy troubles, along with clothing and body parts, are a major source of bonding amongst women," Carrie notes halfway into the book. That philosophy is also a formula that works incredibly well for Bushnell. "Summer and the City" is Grade-A chick lit from one of its masters.

This time, Ford scored two runs after entering as a pinch runner for Aaron Rowand

This time, Ford scored two runs after entering as a pinch runner for Aaron Rowand with the Giants trailing 2-1 in the eighth.

Rowand set the table with a leadoff single, Ford easily went from first to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run with Sanchez, then he scored without drawing a throw on Buster Posey's sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the eighth,Replica Designer marc jacobs shoes on hot sale! Ford easily ran down and caught Matt Diaz's deep shot to right-center field.

Then came the 10th. Pinch hitter Nate Schierholtz led off with a line drive to right field that Diaz misplayed into a double. Ford's sacrifice bunt was too hard, and Schierholtz was thrown out at third base.

But Pirates right-hander Joel Hanrahan made an errant pickoff throw, and Ford made it all the way to third base with a headfirst slide. Sanchez followed with what looked to be a disappointing ground ball, making the Giants 0 for 11 with runners in scoring position on the night.

But Ford kept his eyes locked on Walker. What are the best road bike shoes for women?

Bochy was impressed with Ford's extra gear. He was just as impressed with his lack of hesitation.

"That is how quick he is and how much he anticipated, lacoste shoes are considered a glorious beacon of intelligent design." Bochy said. "There's no fear there. That's what you love about him."

Brian Wilson issued a walk to pinch hitter John Bowker in the 10th before recording the save and snapping the Giants' four-game losing streak.

The first pitch was delayed 46 minutes because of afternoon rain, and the Giants appeared to be swinging wet noodles. Pablo Sandoval hit a leadoff double in the second inning but was stranded. After the first two batters reached in the seventh, Cody Ross and Miguel Tejada each stood in the box and looked at their shoes after fouling out.

They scored their runs on two sacrifice flies and an infield ground out. That was enough.

"(Ford) picked us up, because we're not clicking offensively," Bochy said. "There's that old adage that about speed: It always shows up."

Third base coach Tim Flannery waved his arms as reporters entered the postgame clubhouse, saying, "I had nothing to do with it."

"I told him, 'We're not running to contact, but if you get an opening, use your instincts,' " Flannery said. "He's winning us games and he doesn't have a hit.

"He makes sure pitchers feel him."

In My Shoes Event a Success

Having talked several times with Alexia Brooks (senior, English) about her brainchild event, In My Shoes,There are just so many styles of real and fake dsquared shoes out there that it is near impossible to cover all of them. I still had little idea of what to expect.

The event, which took place on April 25th, is based on Challenge Day, a program that Brooks participated in at Beyer High School. According to its website, Challenge Day helps "tear down the walls of separation" through "highly interactive and energetic activities."

"Students are going to have open dialogue about different issues they've seen or been victim to because of stereotypes that we attach to certain things, like being gay or being a Republican or being Muslim or things like that," Brooks said. "It gives students an opportunity to let other students know what it would be like to be in their shoes."

Challenge Day has lately been getting more publicity, mostly due to MTV's "If You Really Knew Me," a reality show that began airing last year. Each episode follows a single high school Challenge Day.

Though it did not feature a camera crew or energetic activities, In My Shoes was a well-attended and very interactive event.

Brooks ran the event alongside Gaby Farias (sophomore, English, although she is planning to switch to Gender Studies next fall), the University Student Union social awareness coordinator.

This Day in Music Spotlight: Sandie Shaw Tops the Charts, with No Shoes

Nobody was probably more surprised at her win at 1967 Eurovision Song Contest than Sandie Shaw herself. "I hated it from the very first oompah to the final bang on the big bass drum," she said of "Puppet on a String." I was instinctively repelled by its sexist drivel and cuckoo-clock tune."

A huge pop star (beloved for her swinging ’60s fashion and barefoot singing) in England and Europe in the mid-’60s with songs like "Always Something There to Remind Me" and "Long Live Love,There are just so many styles of real and fake dsquared shoes out there that it is near impossible to cover all of them." Shaw had been selected to represent Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest. Shaw’s manager had seen her record sales slipping and figured the Eurovision opportunity might send Shaw down a more mainstream cabaret road for the next phase of her career.

Over the years Eurovision has been mocked for its dumbing down of pop music to its most basic,Stylish and popular discount cheap christan audigier Accessories on sale here now. poppy essence and in 1967 the Eurovision sound was far away from the radical developments in pop and rock that were bursting through the London music world.

It was the biggest-selling song in Germany that year.

The win helped Shaw get her own evening show on television but she was never comfortable with the pop box Eurovision packed her into, and tried hard to branch out musically. She told the Daily Telegraph: "It ruined me creatively for a while. It took away any means of me striking out and doing anything I thought worth doing."

Her 1969 album Reviewing the Situation was a radical departure featuring material from rock heavyweights like Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Led Zeppelin. Nothing much came of her efforts and Shaw spent the ’70s writing, acting and releasing the occasional single.

Then, in the early ’80s, she received a letter from two huge Sandie Shaw fans – Johnny Marr and Morrissey of the then-massive rock band The Smiths. It also transpired that Shaw’s husband was good pals with the head of The Smiths’ record label and she agreed to record some Smiths songs. Shaw wound up with another hit in April 1984, with her version of "Hand in Glove." Back on the music map, and rediscovered by some of the coolest acts of the day, she worked with the likes of The Jesus and Mary Chain and Patti Smith.

She later underwent psychodynamic counseling and started a counseling center, the Arts Clinic in Marylebone. Back in the media spotlight recently, she played the Vintage at Goodwood festival in 2010 and then belted out the title song for Brit movie, Made in Dagenham, about a sewing machinists’ strike at the Dagenham Ford works in 1968. It was a factory she’d briefly worked in back in the ’60s.

2 hikers jailed in Iran get May court date

TEHRAN, April 26 (UPI) -- The two U.S. hikers who have been jailed in Iran for 19 months on charges of spying, have their third court appearance in May, their lawyer said.

After a judge's verdict was twice delayed, attorney Masoud Shafiee said Joshua Fattal and Shane Bauer have a May 11 court date, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

Judges delayed issuing a verdict earlier, citing the absence of 32-year-old Sarah Shourd, who was released on bail in September for medical reasons and returned to the United States.

The three were arrested near the border with Iraqi Kurdistan in June 2009. Iran accused the three of espionage and entering the country illegally. The three said they accidentally crossed the unmarked border and were not spies. There are just so many styles of real and fake dsquared shoes out there that it is near impossible to cover all of them.

While Shourd's presence in court has been sought by Iran's Foreign Ministry, it is unlikely that she will return to face trial in May, Shafiee said.

"When there are several accused persons, a judge cannot postpone the case just because one of them is not present. The judge must issue separate verdicts for Shane and Josh," Shafiee told the Times. "Sara's verdict can be issued in absentia, or her case alone can be delayed."

Fattal and Bauer, both 28, have been detained in Tehran's notorious Evin prison for the past 19 months, well beyond the one-year minimum sentence for the crimes they are accused of committing. Shafiee said he wasn't allowed to meet with the men before their other two appearances, despite court assurances he could.

Game of Life: Parkinson's Place

He's about what you would expect in person. He's very casual in a slightly wrinkled, light brown golf polo and knee-length plaid shorts, deck shoes with no socks. There's still a hint of youth in his features, but when you do the math in your head, you realize he's nearing 50 years of age – which only serves to remind you of how old you've become.

He's wearing sunglasses, but politely removes them in anticipation of the impending interview.

He's fidgety, but not shaking uncontrollably. His hands are in constant motion as he talks, like a conductor directing the words,Via Trading carries a wide range of branded wholesale shoes from famous specialty shoe stores and retail chains at a fraction of their original value. and his legs are bouncing like those of an unprepared teen taking a final exam.

Twenty years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Michael J. Fox is outside Tampa for the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, an event on the Champions Tour. He played in the tournament the last two years, but his schedule would not allow it this time around.

Still, he's here. His Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research is a benefactor of the Pro-Am's charitable distributions.

If ever anyone was put behind golf's 8-ball, it would be Fox. He didn't start playing until five years ago, and that was only because he wanted to show support for those hosting fundraising golf tournaments. By then he was 44 and 15 years into his battle with Parkinson's.

"I wish I had played it earlier, but I was so wrapped up in my work and being Michael Fox. Everything moved at such a fast pace,Wedge Shoes was created in order to maintain a balance of the athletes' movement. I didn't take time to slow down," said the actor known for his roles on the TV series "Family Ties" and the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy.

"Now, I play about two times a week. It doesn't do me any good," he cracked about trying to improve his game. "But I enjoy it."

Tom said he usually shot in the 90s, but once carded a personal-best 77. He also said he caddied for Jim Ferree in the Hawaiian Open. Lee Trevino was in that group, according to Tom.

"I loved his personality," Hutchinson said of Trevino. "He was my favorite. He was so mouthy."

Tom doesn't remember exactly when that took place – sometime in the ‘60s, he figured. He also said it had been 11 years since he last played golf – at the time of his diagnosis. His wife, Martha, countered with six.

Nintendo's next move may cut to the core

Nintendo confirmed on Monday that it plans to launch a new video game console next year that will replace its popular-but-aging Wii.

The new console is not expected out until 2012, but the company said in a statement that it will preview a playable demo of the device at the E3 trade show taking place in Los Angeles in early June. The device is currently known under the code name Project Cafe.

While little is known of the new system, beyond rumors that have leaked out on some gaming blogs, analysts say they expect Nintendo to use the new console to build further on their unique image while improving their appeal to the hard-core gaming crowd that currently favors the rival consoles - the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

“One thing is clear. If all they did was upgrade the Wii with HD and more robust online services, it would be dead-on-arrival,” said Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets. “I think Nintendo understands that.”

The move comes as the company has watched the Wii's popularity begin to wane. The console has sold more than 86 million units globally since its launch in late 2006, thanks in large part to an innovative set of motion controls that appealed to many casual gamers who were put off by the more complex control systems of traditional game titles.

Nintendo's rivals eventually adopted their own new control schemes.Wedge Shoes was created in order to maintain a balance of the athletes' movement. Sony launched the PlayStation Move last year, while Microsoft added the Kinect — which allows players to control games with simply their body movements — to its Xbox 360 system.

Those developments helped erase some of the Wii's advantage in the marketplace. In addition, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are able to play more powerful, high-definition games that the Wii cannot match. Unit sales of the Wii fell by 27% in the U.S. in 2010, according to data from NPD Group.

“Don't be surprised if Nintendo, this time around, creates a piece of hardware that is more compelling to the core gaming community, as well as the mainstream,” said Jesse Divnich, an analyst with EEDAR, a market research firm for the video game industry.

According to Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan, Nintendo's main challenge will be to create a system that is differentiated enough from its rivals to carry a unique appeal, yet close enough in terms of specs to make it easier for game developers to write for.

“I think the only way for them to succeed is if the architecture is similar enough to the PS3 and 360 that makes it easy for developers to port games over,” Pachter said. “That way, you get all the third-party games.Via Trading carries a wide range of branded wholesale shoes from famous specialty shoe stores and retail chains at a fraction of their original value. That's what hurt the Wii.”

Divnich said Nintendo's strong portfolio, which includes popular game franchises such as Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda, help differentiate its systems. He expects third-party publishers to provide stronger support for the new system.

“Simply put, third parties were just late to the game on the Wii,Thousands of discount ed hardy shoes styles for selection. and we should not anticipate that recurring on Nintendo's next console,As it's called Nike shox classic, which is one of the classical style of nike lineup.” he said. “The third-party would be fools not to provide strong and original support at launch.Love womens sandals? Space Coast hosts more snowbirds than usual

Cocoa Beach City Manager Chuck Billias has an unorthodox way to measure how snowbird season is going -- the flow rate, as in the patterns of water use related to toilets flushing in his city. The more flushing, the more people in town.

Billias says the patterns this year show this has been a relatively strong winter for seasonal residents, a report confirmed by others on the Space Coast, using some more traditional measures, such as restaurant reservations, retail sales and rounds of golf played.

Snowbirds -- the more than 35,Find an Adidas Jacket in your team colors or from your favorite soccer teams that wear the Adidas brand.000 seasonal visitors who stay in Brevard County from one to six months a year -- inject more than $221 million into the local economy, the Space Coast Office of Tourism estimates,Air max 2009 Running Shoe Flex grooves in the mid and outsole for flexibility . spending money on such things as lodging, restaurant meals, groceries, clothing, fishing and golf excursions, and visiting local attractions. They also boost the collection plates at local churches when they're here and increase the pool of volunteers for community organizations.

Easter Sunday traditionally marks the end of snowbird season in Brevard County.

Sioux Falls, S.D., retirees Gordon and Catherine Benson, have been staying at the county-operated Manatee Hammock Campground recreational-vehicle park and tenting site in south Titusville since November, and were packing up during the last few days for their journey back to South Dakota.

Gordon, 69, a former truck driver for a specialty-steel manufacturer, and Catherine, 67, a former secretary, fell in love with the Space Coast when they came here for a shuttle launch in 2000, and have been wintering at Manatee Hammock, along the Indian River, ever since. They drive down in their Ford truck, pulling a 34-foot fifth-wheel-style recreational vehicle, where they live during their stay here, along with their 8-year-old standard poodle, Maxxine.

Gordon Benson said they don't miss the Sioux Falls winters -- "not for a second" -- considering a season's snowfall there can total 4 to 6 feet, and low temperatures dipped below zero on 35 nights this winter. There's "a pretty good chance" they will move to Brevard County permanently in the next few years, he said. In Brevard, Catherine Benson said, "Everything is close by. Everything is handy. It's a nice, leisurely pace. We feel very safe here. And they've got a lot of good people here."

They say they don't go out to eat as much as some of their neighbors at Manatee Hammock, but they boost the local economy in other ways, including buying high-priced bags of dog food for Maxxine, as well as $800 to $1,000 worth of oranges from local groves that they ship to their friends and relatives up north.Via Trading carries a wide range of branded wholesale shoes from famous specialty shoe stores and retail chains at a fraction of their original value.

The Space Coast Office of Tourism-commissioned study found the average snowbird party, which it pegs at 1.9 people, spends $12,014 during their typical 140-day stay in Brevard County.

Office of Tourism Executive Director Rob Varley said he has been getting reports from throughout the county of a strong snowbird season, helped by the extreme winter in many parts of the Northeast and Midwest, as well as the relatively late April 24 date of Easter this year. Easter can fall anywhere from March 22 to April 25, and many snowbirds time their departure from Brevard to Easter.what really makes my heart go pitter-patter with excitement are Knee High Boots.Air max classic is a high top sneaker that comes in numerous color ups.

Denim Day promotes sexual assault awareness

“Ask me why I’m wearing jeans,” reads a sticker you will see members of the UW-Milwaukee community wearing on Wednesday, April 27. For a college population that wears jeans almost every day, what special meaning will it have if you wear them on April 27?

Denim Day originated out of a court case with a woman who was raped by her driving instructor, but her case was overturned when the chief judge declared that, “… because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them … and by removing the jeans … it was no longer rape but consensual sex.”

Sexual assault affects everyone. Not sure how it impacts you? You might have a loved one who is a survivor, or maybe you yourself are a survivor. You might be concerned about how to reduce your risk of being victimized. Maybe you are committed to not perpetrating sexual violence yourself. You might be going into a profession where you are in contact with concerns of sexual violence. Maybe you are a person who cares about having a safe environment for everyone.

Let’s be a campus that stands up to sexual assault. There are many steps each one of us can take to move toward ending the culture of sexual assault. We can listen without judgment to the stories of survivors. We can ask about and respect our partner’s boundaries. We can make a conscious effort not to laugh along with sexist jokes. We can look out for a friend who has had too much to drink at a party.

How are you going to be a part of the solution? I am going to start by putting on a pair of jeans and a sticker on Denim Day and I will engage in conversations about sexual assault awareness with my fellow students.

The Festival of Britain, 60 years on

This stocky creature, maned like Harpo Marx, and cast at the Artificial Stone Manufactory operated by Eleanor Coade at Narrow Wall, Lambeth, was produced for the Lion brewery. The great block building, more like a town hall than a reeking factory, was torn down as part of the clearance of an unloved stretch of river frontage. A necessary sacrifice for the postwar festival that would celebrate Britain's heritage, her industrial and scientific advances, by eradicating the residue of an inconvenient past. So while the great and the good,Wedge Shoes was created in order to maintain a balance of the athletes' movement. with their preternatural ability to know what is worthwhile and improving for the rest of us, formed their committees and disposed of modest state patronage, the weird, magnificent, unapproved narrative of the city wriggled and twisted, determined to remain beyond the reach of salaried explainers.

In our own time, we have chosen to exploit a climate of cultural amnesia, Google prompts in place of hard-grooved memory, to set up a chain reaction of festivals honouring festivals: as if nothing of significance happened between these accidental highlights. Decades are organised around the Orwellian preparations for programmed grand events; the promise of a virtual blue-sky future underwriting present inconvenience. The tactical destruction of unrequired historic buildings. Paranoid security operations to ameliorate terrorist threats provoked by the strident apparatus of self-promotion. There is an obvious connection, on the declining Roman empire's bread and circuses model, between political enthusiasm for public spectacles and the periods when we are least able to pay for them.

When the Tories were returned to power in October 1951, they decided that the Festival of Britain site was an expensive embarrassment, more suited to Albania. David Eccles, the minister for works, said that he was "unwilling to become the caretaker of empty and deteriorating structures". There was no O2 rescue package on the horizon. No afterlife as a tented mall, a venue for pensioned rock acts, was offered to the Dome of Discovery, that mushroom-roofed inspiration for New Labour's Millennium Dome on the East Greenwich peninsula.

Lions, taken down from the brewery roof and destined for the knackers' yard, or an architectural salvage shed run by Bermondsey wide boys, were saved by the personal intervention of King George VI. Royal princes, it is acknowledged, have a special relationship with conservation, a vested interest in preserving the fabric of London, maintaining it like a giant chessboard of family statues, a calcified zoo of colonial trophies. The festival in 1951, a soft-Soviet interlude, inspired by the visionary civic proposals of Patrick Abercrombie's 1943 County of London Plan, could afford to indulge the whims of the stuttering monarch.Nike shox are a series of Nike shoes. The stone lions were unculled. During the rescue operation, a hidden recess was found in the spine of one of the enigmatic beasts. It contained a note from the sculptor WF Wooding, who reported that work was completed on the birthday of Princess Victoria, 24 May 1837. There were also coins from the time of William IV and the traditional green bottle, in which was an advertisement for the firm of Coade. If this was too subtle a product placement, the Lambeth businesswoman made sure that her name was branded into the animal's paw.

Fashion pros are helping NBA players raise their style game

In 2010, a month before he took to the basketball court for the first time in a New York Knicks uniform, Amare Stoudemire took to the red carpet at Lincoln Center in head-to-toe Tom Ford.Go ahead to find your favorite new jordans in our online store. In 2009, when NBA No. 1 draft pick Blake Griffin was chosen by the Clippers, he was wearing a custom suit, a purple necktie and eye-catching pocket square from L.A. tailor Waraire Boswell. And sometime during this year's playoffs, there's a decent chance the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade will be photographed sporting a diamond lapel pin from Jason of Beverly Hills.

The National Basketball Association has had its share of style-savvy players - and even coaches (paging Pat Riley). But it wasn't so long ago that the biggest fashion statement on court or off was Dennis Rodman dying his hair the colors of a fruit bowl and Shaquille O'Neal wearing baggy suits - definitely a mixed bag.

Think about it: It can be hard to find the right clothes when you're somewhere around the NBA average of 6 foot 7.

But today - witness Stoudemire, Griffin and Wade - even the tallest players sport a trim and tailored look. Having a personal stylist is de rigueur.you will find perfect replica shoes to complement your favorite outfit for a night out on the town in our collection. Nattily attired, high-profile players grace the covers of glossy style magazines and sit front row at fashion shows next to Vogue's Anna Wintour.

The athletes' fashion side projects and brand endorsements have become so common that the league's acronym might as well be "National Bespoke Association" And it's not just about court shoes anymore. The Celtics' Jermaine O'Neal recently launched a menswear label dubbed Le Jaunty. Stoudemire is collaborating with designer Rachel Roy on a collection for women (spotlighted by Women's Wear Daily last week). And the Lakers' Kobe Bryant has partnered with Nubeo on a line of ungodly expensive watches.

It's hard to reconcile the wardrobe of today's hardwood warriors with the laissez-faire look of the league circa 2005, when the NBA felt compelled to institute an official dress code.

"The dress code was part of a larger discussion about the business of basketball, the players' role in it and projecting a positive image," said Michael Bantom,When your team gets ready for battle with the opposition, be ready with this Nike Jacket. senior vice president of player development for the NBA. "It was something that teams had dealt with on an individual basis. Some teams had their own dress codes, others didn't."

But as of the 2005-06 season, off-court players engaged in team or league business were required to wear collared dress shirts or turtlenecks, dress slacks, khakis or dress jeans with "appropriate shoes and socks." Players at games but not in uniform were additionally required to wear a sport coat, puma shoes are hot, and the styles on this list are among the hottest. dress socks and dress shoes or boots. T-shirts, sports jerseys, shorts, headphones,Love womens sandals? So do we. sunglasses worn indoors or headgear of any kind were prohibited while a player was on team or league business.

Many observers - including Bantom - see that as the first ripple in what would eventually become a change in the way professional basketball players approached their clothing choices.

"True to their competitive nature, once they started dressing up - and seeing how good they looked - they started competing with each other to see who could dress the best," Bantom said. "The evidence of that can be seen in their interest in fashion and the exposure they're now getting because of the way they're dressing."

That meant players were no longer simply satisfied with the convenience of one-stop custom clothiers such as Elevee in Van Nuys, Calif., which in 2005 laid claim to half of the NBA's players as clients. Stephon Marbury once placed an order for 82 suits - one for each regular season game - and longtime customer Shaquille O'Neal was known to order 52 shirts and 20 pairs of trousers at a clip. But after the dress code was implemented, some pro ballers took a page from the music and movie industry celebrity playbook and began to engage the services of personal stylists.

Transportation talk

Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt put the Chapel Hill Transit system to the test Wednesday, nike af1 has been often referred to as the supe. riding the HS route to the Varsity Theater.

Wearing tennis shoes, jeans and a striped blue polo, Kleinschmidt later met Chapel Hill residents at the Starbucks on East Franklin Street to discuss the town’s transit and mobility issues in a more casual forum.

“Sometimes those formal occasions become kind of chilling, and people have those expectations that the mayor is going to come talk at us,” Kleinschmidt said.

“That is not what this is about. It’s about receiving feedback in an informal, comfortable way.”

While enjoying complementary coffee and treats, about 15 Chapel Hill residents were able to give the mayor and other Chapel Hill Transit officials feedback about the transportation system.

“We just want to measure the pulse of the community,” said Len Cone, community outreach coordinator for Go Chapel Hill. “We want to hear what they want to say because it makes a difference.”

Jon Speer, a bicycling enthusiast and Chapel Hill resident, said he thinks the town is not safe for cyclists when the group discussed alternative modes of transportation.

He said he would like to see the town give people a safe place to ride by closing streets on the weekends or on Saturday mornings.

“I am an experienced rider, and I’ll ride on any road around here, but people who are not, cannot safely do it,” he said.

The Chapel Hill “fare-free” transit system was first implemented in January 2002, said Brian Litchfield, assistant transit director for Chapel Hill Transit. Since then its ridership has increased every year, reaching nearly 7.5 million in 2009, he said.

Though the system is fare-free, it is funded by yearly local taxes and a transportation fee added to every UNC student’s bill.

“It is almost like a pre-paid option,” Litchfield said. “People don’t pay anything as they get on the bus, but they finance the service through taxes.”

According to the transit website, the system has a more than $11 million budget.

Public forums where citizens voice their opinion on service adjustments are even more crucial in light of state and local budget cuts, Kleinschmidt said. If cuts come, the town needs to know where to prioritize.

Chapel Hill Transit is part of a partnership looking for ways to make a comprehensive transit system around the Triangle area. The system could include a light rail system and buses supporting it.

“We’re supportive of that, but it is still in the early study phases, and Triangle Transit is kind of leading the charge on that,” Litchfield said. “But we’re definitely involved from a staff and planning perspective.”

But budget cuts could hinder progress on the transit system.Go ahead to find your favorite new jordans in our online store.

“It is a great public service — especially the safe rides or the ‘drunk rides,’” said Chapel Hill resident Carl Schuler.

Men brave high heels for sexual assault awareness

"There he goes just a walking down the street singing doo-a-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-doo." Yes, you read right – he. Though music artist Manfred Mann may not have pictured a man walking down the street when he wrote this song, that's exactly what passers-by saw on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville, N.C., Saturday.

Men were seen parading the streets in high heels using the sidewalk as their "catwalk" in the man's fight against sexual assault.

Dubbed, "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes," more than 150 men and women, mostly service members and their spouses, attended the Onslow County Women's Center's mile-long initiative, which began and ended at the Onslow Memorial Hospital parking lot.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and according to the international Walk a Mile in Her Shoes website, the march is an opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations to sexualized violence.

Suzanne Wilber, the Onslow County Women's Center executive director and organizer for the event, said the event brings awareness of the serious issue to the public.

"People drove by and literally saw men in high heels marching against sexual assault," said Wilber. "These guys took time out of their day to walk in women's shoes and felt what it was like to be a woman, all the while preventing sexual assault at the same time."

Snide remarks, hollering and car horns from passers-by could be heard as these courageous men braved the busy street in their pumps or stilettos. While these men had never experienced this type of attention before, walking in high heels is not easy and most, if not all, were seen looking at the ground trying to coordinate their strut through town.

It wasn't pretty.

Staff Sgt. Jeremy Burns, a court reporter for Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, said the first thing he did when he woke was put on the pair of high heels he purchased the previous day and began his morning routine.

"This was the first time in my life where my appearance really mattered," said Burns. "I actually cared if my shirt matched my high heels. I was trying to get my ‘coordination on' before the event. I was walking around the house doing house things and what not. Took some time getting use to it and it sure wasn't painless.2011 New Style Jeans cheap true religion on sale with fast delivery!"

"He even changed the cat litter," added his wife, Meghan.

On a more serious note, sexual assault is everywhere and occurs quite often. Every two minutes, someone is sexually assaulted, according to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, and 60 percent of these crimes go unreported.

Wilber said most people think the woman who gets sexually assaulted is partially to blame in certain situations, such as a woman hanging out with a group of guys at 2 a.Replica Designer marc jacobs shoes on hot sale!m. after a night of drinking, but in the end, the crime should have never happened.where you can buy high fashion buy cheap jeans online in very low price, buy wholesale jeans from Jean-mall now!

"We're in a society that likes to play the blame game," said Wilber. "Whether the girl is the only female in a group,Thousands of discount ed hardy shoes styles for selection. has a short skirt or whatever, is irrelevant. Ultimately it should be prevented."

Burns didn't show up for the event because he has a personal attachment. His job was the main reason.

"I am a court reporter and I have to listen to cases of sexual assault all the time," said Burns. "It kills me when these victims have to re-live their experiences through pretrial, during the trial and post trial. I just don't like women being abused."

After the walk, the Onslow County Women's Center held a "Stiletto Stampede" to get all the male participants to race each other in their high heels. The heels, however, didn't seem to slow the men down.

"These guys are competitive," said Wilber. "I remember last year we had a semi-pro football team race and they were throwing elbows and everything. There were no elbow jabs this year, but if you looked at them walking the mile and compare it with the race, you could tell they wanted to win."

After the day's event, Wilber gathered everyone around to thank them for their efforts to raise awareness about sexual assault.

"We are all humans, we make mistakes," said Wilber. "We can't judge or blame one another when sexual assault occurs. But, what we can do is step up, take ownership and prevent it.When your team gets ready for battle with the opposition, be ready with this Nike Jacket."

Man Utd stale mate keeps title race alive

Manchester United failed to score at St.James's Park for the first time in 11 seasons as a goalless draw with Newcastle United kept alive the race for the Barclays Premier League title.puma shoes are hot, and the styles on this list are among the hottest.

The Red Devils had the chance to move nine points clear of second-placed Arsenal with victory over Alan Pardew's mid-table side.

But, with Sir Alex Ferguson serving the penultimate game of his five-match touchline ban, the visitors failed to bounce back from the disappointment of their weekend FA Cup semi-final defeat against rivals Manchester City.

Wayne Rooney was back from his two-match suspension for swearing down the lens of a TV camera, but it was another frustrating night for the England forward.

Kick off was delayed for a few seconds as Rooney's strike partner, Javier Hernandez, knelt on the halfway-line and completed his pre-match prayer routine. If the Mexican was praying for an early chance then he certainly got his wish.

After just 90 seconds Rooney broke down the left wing and delivered for what looked like a routine tap-in for Hernandez.

But Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, in for the injured Steve Harper,When your team gets ready for battle with the opposition, be ready with this Nike Jacket. read the unfolding danger and slid from his goalline to smother at the feet of the frontman, much to the relief of the home crowd.

That relief, though, soon turned to excitement as the black and whites enjoyed a prolonged spell of attacking pressure.

First, Jonas Gutierrez danced by three red shirts before seeing a measured curler from 20 yards deflected wide off Nemanja Vidic.

Then, Shola Ameobi, stretching at the far post to connect with Joey Barton's deep centre, could only turn into the hands of Edwin van der Sar, and Cheik Tiote smashed into those same gloves with a 25-yard drive just seconds later as the Magpies produced a pulsating spell.

It wasn't the start the league leaders had planned but they soon began to settle and Rooney broke free of marker Mike Williamson on the edge of the area only to lift his shot over both Krul and the crossbar on 19 minutes.Go ahead to find your favorite new jordans in our online store.

That frenetic opening gave way to a game of defensive containment, but it was Newcastle who finished the half the stronger of the sides.

Skipper Barton saw a 41st-minute free-kick snaffled by Van der Sar just inside his near post before Peter Lovenkrands headed wide when unmarked just eight yards out.

The second period began in much the same vein as the first and Ryan Giggs, like Lovenkrands just before the break, should have done better when heading wide of goal from an identical, close-range position.

Newcastle were being implored forward by a vociferous home support and Lovenkrands saw a penalty appeal waved away just before the hour mark when he tumbled under the clumsy challenge of Anderson.

Ireland had an opportunity of his own at the other end but volleyed inches wide from just outside the area.

The Reds pressed for a winner, introducing former Newcastle captain Michael Owen to a chorus of home boos, but they struggled to break down the home defence and Hernandez was booked for a stoppage-time dive when attempting to con referee Lee Probert into a late penalty.

Ferguson said: "It was a clear penalty. It's an insult because he's booked him.

"I thought the referee had a good game tonight, but he's let himself down by booking the player.

"If it's not a penalty, fine, but to book him is an insult. There is definitely contact, no doubt about that."
