Another week, another groovy shop opening in fashionable Lamb's Conduit Street in Bloomsbury, London. This one courtesy of Oliver Spencer, who was among the first wave of new settlers in the street: it was his menswear shop, along with Folk across the road, that kickstarted its rebirth and set others sniffing around for empty units like Customs & Excise spaniels.
Anyway, despite already having a presence he decided there was room for a decent men's shoe shop - not just in Lamb's Conduit Street, mind, but also in the footwear market - and a fine one it is, too. This being Spencer, a designer who admits to having "one foot in the past and one in the future", it's all pleasingly retro and no-nonsense, with a fair amount of own-brand stuff (Goodyear-welted brogues made in Northampton, utilitarian man bags in waxed cotton and leather,Air max 360 is loved by the majority of athletes and the general public people. cool sunglasses etc), as well as a good edit of great deck shoes, desert boots, sneakers and accessories from other labels.Nike Air trainers began life as the Cheap nike air max back in 1987. "I've been thinking for a long time that there is a real gap in the market for a good men's shoe shop," he tells me. "About a year ago it came to me that no one is selling nice shoes."
