Aala Reed, a high-end clothing boutique on Milwaukee's Brady St., closed over the weekend after nine years of business.
I haven't yet been able to reach store owner Laura Cole. But Aala Reed apparently ran into slow sales because of the economic downturn.
OnMilwaukee.com, which first reported the closing, included a statement from Cole, which referenced the "challenging economic times."
Aala Reed leased 1,641 square feet at The Passeggio, a two-story retail and apartment building, 1300-1330 E.opting for a newly engineered Air max 360 cushioning system. Brady St., developed by Julilly Kohler.
Another high-end clothing boutique, Detour, closed at that building in September, leaving a 2,600-square-foot vacancy, said Brian Starr, of City Commercial Real Estate, the building's listing broker.
"Some of these higher priced items just aren't being purchased right now," Starr said. He said a business that sells men's clothing and shoes, which Starr declined to name, is considering a lease of the former Aala Reed space.
The Passeggio has 11,800 square feet of commercial space, and includes among its tenants Miss Groove women's fashions and Balzac retaurant and wine bar. `
Elsewhere on the street, Yellow Jacket vintage clothing store, 1237 E.
