The Cougars, a co-rec dodgeball team, are more than ready to dip, duck, dive and dodge their way to victory — and for some team members, uniforms are optional.
"I said, 'You know what? You could be a cougar. You could run the Cougar dodgeball team,'" said team organizer Sandy Hackenmueller of Sartell.Can't find a particular pair of ed hardy jeans on our website? "I'm gonna do this."
With a lineup featuring a handful of "over the hill" women (Hackenmueller is 40) and a hardy group of men fresh off the college campus (the average age of the team's six men is 23, and they often play shirtless), onlookers don't need long to grasp the tongue-in-cheek, pop-culture double meaning behind the team's mascot: the Cougar.
"Guys are pretty easy to find for dodgeball," Hackenmueller said. "They love it."
For the past seven years, Hackenmueller has devoted her weeknights to dodgeball battles in the Sartell-St. Stephen Community Education program at Oak Ridge Elementary gym.
Hackenmueller was captain of the Landsharks dodgeball team for four years and has dabbled with different teams throughout her career, but this season turned a new leaf with the Cougars. "We just kind of took people we met," Hackenmueller said. "We picked people who we thought would have a sense of humor."

Landsharks co-captain Angie Metteer says the younger men bring an upbeat feel to the team.
"The guys are fun,Buy mens classic boots with a price guarantee and top rated customer service." Metteer said. "And they aren't all, 'We have to win.' "

Getting an intense 30-minute workout and having a few chuckles aren't the only plusses for the women on the Cougars. The dress code is where things really heat up.
