For most of us without model proportions, buying a perfect pair of jeans requires patience, luck and frustrating hours in a changing room. But the process could soon become simpler thanks to a machine which helps women choose the right size, shape and cut.

The survey of 2,000 shoppers found that one in five women owns six pairs of jeans they no longer wear due to weight loss or gain. The service is expected to be rolled out across 15 branches of Peacocks from September.
