New beginning for Badowers

Clad in dark denim, wool blazers, skinny ties and leather shoes, Badowers employees Kevin Hansen, 32, and Michael Chilton,I wouldn't want to be in your Replica shoes. 25, are the portrait of a modern rustic aesthetic that emphasizes well-tailored, handmade, wear-it-in pieces.

Hansen,Buy mens nike Air max 360 shoes and womens nike air max 360 shoes from our on-line shop. the store's apparel buyer and manager, is behind a transition that puts Badowers' stock in line with the looks he's seeing on men's style sites (selectism.com and acontinuouslean.com are a few favorites). Hansen said the influx of fashion blogs has helped inspire a new generation of Midwestern men to care about clothes. The old Badowers was a dark, old-school haberdashery and it was time to bring it more up to date.

"I feel that there's a market for more contemporary stuff for guys in Des Moines," Hansen says. "I think the better dressed you are, the more creative you look."

For the Badowers man, "business casual" isn't a pair of khakis and an ill-fitting polo shirt. It's straight-leg raw Japanese denim (Hansen brought in Canada-made Naked&Famous Denim and Kansas City brand Baldwin) and a blazer you break in yourself.

"Younger guys are wearing ties as accessories again, and not just as part of a suit," he says. "A wool or knit tie can make a suit less serious. One of the men was wearing a grey hooded Adidas Jacket and grey jogging bottoms with a white stripe."

According to Hansen and Chilton,Featuring a combination Air max 2009 and mesh upper which offers amazing lightweight comfort, breathability and feel. jeans that are on-trend are embellishment-free (blingin' pockets are out, guys), untreated and look great slightly pegged with a leather boot. (Chilton owns a pair of Wolverine 1,000-mile Addison boots he considers a winter wardrobe staple.) For outerwear, the guys say hybrid jackets are hot right now for their dressy-casual sportcoat feel.

The front of the store is a well-edited collection of sportswear, with the store's well-known array of suits in the back.

Hansen's up on the buzz around each new line he brings into Badowers. Billy Reid was just named the designer of the year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Hansen says, navigating around a rack of the label's shirts. These younger sartorialists brings a new vibe to the store, but they also respect the past and wear suits half the week. Part of the cache of specialty shopping is that the store (which Hansen said was opened more than 50 years ago by Fred Badower) still boasts a master tailor, James Conley. (Hansen and some friends are actually collaborating on a short video about Conley, who has more than 50 years' experience.)

"The most important thing in fashion is fit," Hansen says.

Badowers' new look is paired with a social media presence and events like a denim launch party and holiday open house. "I think we're lucky to be in Des Moines, where we don't just have to be one thing," Hansen says. Both men have been offered fashion jobs in bigger cities,Now women from Parkhurst, who drive Range Rovers and wear True Religion jeans, watch you walk away feeling smaller than an ant.truereligion jeans but they're committed to creating a destination for men's style here.
