‘Other Place’ owners killed in crash

Joe and CeCe Hubbard, owners of “The Other Place” Restaurant and “Max’s” in Corsicana, were among four persons killed in a two-car collision on Christmas Eve afternoon in Limestone County.

The accident occurred at 2:05 p.m. Friday on Texas State Highway 14, just south of Thornton.

Two people in the Toyota were also killed. The Hubbards opened up “Max’s” — their first Corsicana restaurant — in 1993. Two years later, they purchased the old Sirloin Stockade building on West Seventh Avenue and opened “The Other Place” as a full-service restaurant and lounge. Max’s remains a popular night spot for the area. Both locations enjoyed a loyal following of regular customers. The Other Place was a frequent winner of the Daily Sun’s “Best of the Best” contest each year.

On Monday, purple ribbons were on the doors of the restaurant in tribute to the popular couple. Both were frequently in the restaurant greeting diners during the day and evening. The restaurant was closed on Monday, and plans for the rest of the week had not been finalized Monday afternoon.
