Petersburg's salute to the stars

Some Petersburg residents we tip our hats off to are Spencer Cotton and Blair Underwood in the acting filed, singers Mary Hicks, Trey Songz and the late William Mckinley Spratley, formerly of Del Fonics singing group, who attended Peabody High School. Dick Morgan, a jazz artist who made a piano cry mercy, also was a Peabody High School student and played with Duke Ellington and Julian "Cannon Ball" Adderley.

Petersburg athletes who played professional football included Ron Bolton, Rickey and Lamont Hunley, the late Eric Tipton, Lewis Turner, Kenny Edmonds, Jim Sheppherd, Jerome Mathis and now Kendall Langford. In basketball,First came the Christian Louboutin collection, which was odd yet fairly acceptable. we have Moses Malone, Mark West, Kenny Harris and Avis Wyatt. In baseball, we have Joe Wiggins, and Jimmy Shields played in the Negro League before integration. Nathaniel Bates had a tryout with the New York Giants of Major League Baseball.

A few boxers who could have turned professional include David Robinson adn Mickey Tatum.

Some well known athletes and entertainers have made appearance in our city: Athletes Jose Louis,Have you ever wondered why women handbags keep gelling larger and larger. Ray Robinson, Jack Dempsey, Dr. Julius Ervin, Luke Easter, Roy Campanella, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Boby Hayes, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain. Kareem Abul Jabbar, George Taliafero and Levi Jackson. Joe Rivers, a former sparring partner of Joe Louis, lived here until his death and Gene Hollins, who played with the Baltimore Bullets also lived here.

Singers who appeared here at Harding Street Recreation Center: James Brown, Lloyd Price, Fats Domino, Chubby Checkers, Mary Wells, Jerry Butler, the Shirelles, Gene Duke "Earl" Chandler and the list goes on.

Again we take time out to salute Blair Underwood, Trey Songz, Kendall Landford, Mary Hicks, Jermoe Mathis and Dick Morgan.
